The Bylaws are critical and typically require a 2/3 vote to amend after an initial simple majority vote to adopt. At the organizational meeting, it is common for prior bylaws to just be re-adopted, or adopted with only minor changes. That means you could be stuck with the same or similar Bylaws for 10 years. That is why it is critical to get them right the first time. Instead of rushing, it may be valuable to motion to create a bylaws committee (specify trusted chair and members) and then use the below to assist in their creation:
- Sample LD Bylaws Template (in word format) (pdf version from Maricopagop.org)
- LD15 Bylaws 2021
- LD27 Bylaws 2021
Keep in mind that Proxy votes are always abused, lead to disengagement by PCs, saw very negative comments at both the County and State mandatory meeting, and continued use in some cases may qualify as a violation of the PC oath of office. For this reason, it is recommended you disallow all proxies in your bylaws.
